Double Honor

“Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.”

1 Timothy 5:17

I wish to use my article for the December issue of the Trinity Times newsletter to express our gratitude to God for you.  Throughout the month of October, Jan and I received cards and encouragements from people in the church family expressing your gratitude for us and our ministry.  I am encouraged when you reach out in that way; pastoral ministry can often be a lonely venture with little acknowledgment of one’s efforts.  For my part, I will strive to be more diligent in recognizing your efforts; for sure, we need each of you in order for this congregation to fulfill God’s purposes for us.

On the last Sunday of October, Jan and I were presented with an envelope that contained some wonderful gifts.  The envelope contained a card along with several hundred dollars cash; two $150 gift certificates to Fleet Feet, a generous gift card for Jan to use at Kohl’s, and a gift card for Jan and I to enjoy at Texas Roadhouse.  We don’t know who to thank specifically; suffice it to say that we are very thankful to you for your generous gifts given anonymously.  Thank you!

Another “thank you” for your ministry efforts came recently from the family of John and Evelyn Sproston.  John’s memorial was to Trinity Church, and the family gratefully acknowledged our ministry to their parents/grandparents, both of whom were members of Trinity Church, and have now graduated to the church triumphant in glory.  Here are some of their thoughts:

“To the Trinity Presbyterian Church family, the world’s a whole lot better place because of people like you who bring so much happiness with the nice things that you do…and with your recent thoughtfulness still very much in mind, this is meant to bring a thank-you of the very warmest kind.  In loving memory of our father, John L. Sproston, the family and friends of John L. Sproston.”

Here’s another – “We would like to thank you for your loving support and Pastor Daren for the beautiful service for dad.  We so appreciate the love of Dad’s church family and the beautiful bouquet you sent.  To thank you for your kindness and sympathy at a time when it was deeply appreciated by the family of John L. Sproston.”  $900 was contributed (so far) to Trinity Church in John’s memory.

December is upon us, which means Christmas is literally just around the corner.  Don’t forget to pray for the Operation Christmas Child shoe-boxes we prepared and delivered in mid-November!  Throughout December, we have several services of worship to rejoice in the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We are planning a Thanksgiving service on the first Sunday in Advent (November 27, 5:00 PM), decorating the church for Christmas, ringing the bell for Salvation Army at Aledo Walmart, a Christmas caroling party, Christmas Blessing gifts to purchase and deliver to those we’re sponsoring, a Candlelight Christmas Eve service, and a Christmas morning service of worship on Sunday, December 25 (no Sunday School that Sunday).

Looking forward to spending Christmas together with you!  Merry Christmas with love in Jesus, Pastor Daren and family
